Live Opera: “Hamlet”, 1 December

Next 1 December, you can enjoy the Opera “Hamlet”, broadcast live from Monnaie (Brussels), at 19.15h at our Cinesur Miramar.
This five-act opera is based on the mythical story of the great Shakespeare’s “Hamlet”. In it we have the son of the King of Denmark as the main character. Thus, we began this opera with the King of Denmark deceased. Claudius, the brother of Hamlet, is his successor to the throne and he marries the widow queen Gertrude. Hamlet disapproves the marriage to his mother, and after the wedding, his confidants Horatio and Marcellus tell him about a vision they had during the night. In which Hamlet’s father appears to him, revealing that he has been poisoned by Claudius and Gertrude, and asks for revenge.
Thus begins a thrilling story in which Ophélie struggles to captivate Hamlet’s attention; while he focuses on uncovering the King’s assassination. For this purpose, Hamlet decides to organise a representation where a story like that of his father’s poisoning is told (in order to call out Claudius and Gertrude by how they react to the play). During the same, he publicly accuses them of being his father’s murderers, which triggers a series of events that will lead Hamlet to feign insanity, Ophélie to commit suicide, and various duels that will culminate in a tragic end.
